West Suffolk Voluntary Association for the Blind

Macular Support Group

The Macular Support Group was formed in February 2007 to support members of the WSVAB who suffered from macular degeneration. The group is affiliated to the Macular (Disease) Society to which a number of our members already belong.

We meet quarterly on the 3rd Friday of February, May, August and November from 10am to 12 noon at Moreton Hall Community Centre, commencing with a social period at which coffee, tea and biscuits are served. This is followed by a talk by our visiting speaker, who on most occasions will also answer questions from the floor.

The speakers we select are of particular interest to members, i.e. Consultants and staff from the West Suffolk Hospital Trust Eye Clinic, speakers from the Macular (Disease) Society, information regarding benefits etc. and even demonstrations from suppliers of ready meals (including tasty samples!).

Our average attendance is about 25-30 and we would welcome anyone interested in meeting other people in our area coping with macular degeneration to come and join us. There is a small subscription of £2 per meeting which helps to cover the hire of the hall, refreshments etc.

Come and join us!

If you require any further information please do not hesitate to contact me.
